Wednesday, October 24th, 6.00pm
Northern TUC Offices, Commercial Union House,
Domestic Violence is a hate crime based on power, it is a trade union issue.
One in four women will suffer domestic violence, many on multiple occasions. On average, two women each week will be killed by their current or former male partner. One incident of domestic violence is reported to the Police every minute.
Fewer than 1 in 4 victims of domestic violence and less than 1 in 10 rape victims report it to the Police.
This TUC seminar seeks to develop trade union strategies for tackling domestic violence, both in workplaces and communities, and considers the role of the incoming Police and Crime Commissioners in improving prosecutions of perpetrators.
Speakers include Emma Hopkins of Simpson Miller solicitors and Vera Baird, prospective PCC in Northumberland. Chaired by Clare Williams, Northern TUC Women's Group.
Places are limited. Please register by Friday 19th October - firstname.lastname@example.org, 0191 232 3175.
