Revised Model Rules for Trades Union Councils

Issue date

The General Council of the Trades Union Congress approved a revision of the attached  Model Rules and Standing Orders, prepared by the TUCJCC, for the use of Trades Union Councils.  The main changes make it clearer that trades union councils must affiliate to their County Association of Trades Union Councils. Trades union councils will be asked to indicate that they have done so on their TUC registration form. The other changes are on procedures at the annual Trades Union Council Conference. There is a new rule on the remitting of motions at conference. Another new rule clarifies how motions will be handled if the delegate(s) for a County Association or County Trades Union Council is absent from the conference when their motion is called.

Trades union councils can have their own constitution, rules and standing orders but they must be compatible with the Model Rules. The majority of trades union councils simply amend the model rules to suit their particular needs and circumstances. Trades union councils are asked to check through the attached document and ensure that they are compliant. A hard copy of these Model Rules is being circulated to all registered trades union councils.
