Preliminary agenda published for 144th Congress in Brighton

Campaigning for an alternative to austerity, tackling Britain's youth jobs crisis and promoting fair and just taxation are just some of the issues contained in the preliminary agenda for this year's TUC Congress, published today (Monday).

Other topics among the 82 motions to be debated in Brighton during the 144^th Congress include concern over 'hidden courts', standing up for vulnerable workers, protecting public services, tackling homophobic bullying in schools, securing Stephen Lawrence's legacy, support for clean coal technology and the need for more social housing.

TUC President Paul Kenny, Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls MP and European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) General Secretary Bernadette Segol are among the speakers addressing delegates at Congress in the recently refurbished Brighton Centre, which takes place between Sunday 9 and Wednesday 12 September 2012.

Congress starts at 4pm on Sunday with an address from TUC President Paul Kenny and continues until Wednesday afternoon.

All applications for media passes must be received no later than noon on Wednesday 29 August. Any applications received after this date will be processed in Brighton and subject to a £50 administration fee. The Brighton Centre requires 60 days' notice for telephone line facilities.
