Online research

The following are sources of online information. The list is not exhaustive and is provided because the TUC does not have the resources to reply to these kinds of queries on an individual basis. We hope they are useful.

TUC website Site Map
Could help you find what you're looking for on this site.

Office for National Statistics
ONS is the government body which collects statistics on a huge range of subjects. They have a section dedicated to the labour market which provides information on employment relations, productivity, training, unemployment and other issues. It also carries out the Labour Force Survey.

European Industrial Relations Observatory
EIRO is a project of the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, which collects, analyses and disseminates high-quality and up-to-date information on key developments in industrial relations in Europe.

British Library Public Catalogue
Although you need to be a member to take books out, the British Library's online Public Catalogue can be used to find titles of books which then might be obtained elsewhere, such as through a university library.

Website of the Certification Officer
The Certification Officer is appointed by the government, and is responsible for registering both employers organisations and trade unions. His office is not an ombudsman, but you can find a list of all registered trade unions here, including those (mainly small staff associations) which are not affiliated to the TUC.

Social Science Information Gateway
"Aims to provide a trusted source of selected, high quality Internet information for researchers and practitioners in the social sciences, business and law"; links to useful websites and specific online documents.

Virtual Training Suite
Free online tutorials to help students and researchers improve their internet information skills. Tutorials are themed by subject area.

Please note that these websites are included for information purposes only and inclusion does not imply the endorsement of the TUC.
