TUC International work

Trade Unionism Around the World

The TUC is an internationalist organisation which means we work with trades unionists around the world to secure social justice for everyone.

We have a section of our site devoted to our International work, which includes links to international development organisations. We also have a micro-site on the issue of globalisation.

The TUC represents British workers at the International Labour Organisation. The ILO is based in Geneva and brings together representatives of workers, employers and governments from every country which is part of the United Nations.

The TUC is affiliated to the following international trade union bodies:

International Confederation of Free Trade Unions
The ICFTU is a confederation of national trade union centres (like the TUC), each of which links together the trade unions of that particular country. Their website lists their affiliates with either email addresses or websites, where available.

European Trade Union Confederation
The ETUC brings together union federations from across Europe and is based in Brussels. Their website has more details.

For information on European issues:

EIROnline offers news and analysis of European industrial relations.

EUROPA is the European Union's information portal.

Europe Direct claims to answer your questions about the European Union.

The following organisations work on international trade union issues:

International Centre for Trade Union Rights
ICTUR is an organising and campaigning body which seeks to defend and improve the rights of trade unionists throughout the world.

Justice for Colombia
Colombia is the most dangerous place in the world to be a trade unionist. The TUC is affiliated to this trade union campaign for Colombian human rights.

War on Want
Anti-poverty charity which works closely with the British trade union movement to promote global justice, trade union rights and sustainable international development.
