Unions to celebrate May Day in virtual world
May Day (Thursday 1 May) sees the launch of Union Island, an innovative new trade union project to build a home for unions and activists in the virtual world Second Life. Union Island will host the first ever virtual May Day, a day of training, networking and celebration to bring activists from the global union movement together in a way never before possible.
Midlands Trade Unionists celebrate May Day
This weekend will see Midlands Trade Unionists celebrate the traditional May Day with marches and social events across the region. TUC Regional Secretary Roger McKenzie said, In the Midlands there has been a long tradition of celebrating the achievements of our trade unions with excellent locally organised marches and social events. Trade unions have much of which to be proud, from helping individual members with workplace problems to campaigning for a better society for all.
Union recognition campaigns treble as deals get tougher to secure
The number of trade union campaigns for recognition deals has trebled while the number of agreements signed with employers has fallen, according to the annual TUC Trade Union Trends Focus on Recognition' survey published today (Friday).
