May Day sees assault on Turkish workers
Turkish workers in Istanbul have once more been met by brutal state oppression when they have tried to celebrate May Day peacefully and to remember 42 workers who lost their lives in the celebrations of 1977. The TUC has written to the Turkish Ambassador once more deploring the actions of the Turkish state
TUC campaign to make case for radical economic reform
A jobs guarantee for young people, spreading the living wage across the public and private sectors, putting communities not profits at the heart of public services, and creating a stronger voice for workers in the management of companies are among the TUC's five key campaign priorities in the run up to the general election, according to its campaign plan published today (Wednesday).

The on-line version of the 2013 Directory of Trades Union Councils and County Associations has now been published on the TUC website. The directory contains the contact details for all registered trades union councils and county associations in England and Wales.
Iranian police violently suppress peaceful May Day workers' demonstration
Attempts by Iranian workers to celebrate May Day through a peaceful demonstration called by independent trade union organisations (see below for list) were violently repressed by the Iranian government, according to eye witness reports. Forty-seven trade unionists remain in prison.
Unions celebrate May Day in Iraqi Kurdistan
As well as May Day demonstrations in Baghdad and Basra, Iraqi Kurdistan also saw May Day demonstrations. In Sulymaniah, the leader of the General Workers and Craft Syndicate Union of Kurdistan, Sardar Rashed, led a demonstration.
Iraqi unions celebrate May Day
Iraqi trade unions once famously celebrated May Day in 1959, with a million people on the streets of Baghdad to celebrate the fall of the monarchy. This year, 50 years later, the celebrations were smaller, but the trade union movement and the Iraqi Communist Party are rebuilding.
