Labour and unions must change to lift country out of economic stagnation, says TUC General Secretary
TUC General Secretary Frances O'Grady warned today (Friday) that both unions and the Labour Party will need to change to deliver a radical new economic settlement that will lift the UK out of a lost decade of stagnation.

As part of the TUC's contribution to the ETUC Day of Action 'against austerity, for jobs and growth' on 14 November 2012, TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber has written an open letter to the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso. In it, he calls for the Commission 'to take note of the mounting opposition to austerity across Europe and change course urgently.'

TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber will expose the failures of the government's austerity programme and call for policies for growth and jobs at the North West TUC's annual conference in Liverpool today (Saturday).
The new European treaty: unfair, undemocratic and misguided
TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber has written to the Prime Minister David Cameron and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg to outline the trade union movement's opposition to the new European treaty on stability, co-ordination and governance in the economic and monetary union, and to explain that British trade unionists are having to lobby Governments around Europe as part of an ETUC day of action about the treaty because the UK Government walked out on the negotiations.
