Trade Union Press & PR Awards 2002

The GMB’s in-house magazine, GMB Action, won Best Publication at the 25th Trade Union Press & PR Awards last night. The competition, hosted by the TUC and the Bank of Scotland, has been running since 1977, and attracted a high standard of entries.

The Railways, Transportation and Maritime Workers Union’s journal RMT News won Best Feature, 'I endured two years of hell', telling a harrowing story of sexual harassment of one of the small number of women in the male dominated transport industry.

UNISON’s web site (unison.org.uk) won Best Use of Electronic Communications, for its depth of information, speed, and user-friendliness, particularly for new users.

Other winners were Jez Coulson with Best Photograph for the National Union of Teachers (NUT), Clifford Harper with Best Illustration for the Graphical Paper & Media Union (GPMU), Best Recruitment Material for the Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association (TSSA), and Best Campaign for the Fire Brigades Union (FBU).

Judges for this year’s awards were Chris Adams (Employment Editor, FT), John Cruddas MP, Joy Johnson (Head of Media, GLA), Philippa Kennedy (Editor, Press Gazette), and Andrew Linington (Journal Editor, NUMAST)
