Yorkshire & The Humber TUC's

Annual General Meeting

The Yorkshire & the Humber Regional TUC held its AGM on 17th and 18th April 2009, in Bradford. This was the first time that the AGM had been held over two days with an evening meal inbetween, and the new format was extremely successful, providing opportunities for delegates to debate issues and network

A wide variety of resolutions were passed at the meeting, which will go forward to form part of the regional TUC's workplan for the coming year. These covered:

  • The Economy
  • The Campaign Against the BNP
  • The NUJ's disputes at newspapers across the region
  • Proposed privatisation of Royal Mail
  • Housing crisis
  • Clean coal technology
  • Pensions
  • Public Sector Workers
  • Transport

The regional TUC will be concentrating especially upon the effects of the recession within Yorkshire and the Humber, working with partners such as Yorkshire Forward to try to alleviate some of its worst effects. This region has been particularly badly affected by job losses and the Regional Secretary, Bill Adams, is liaising closely with regional trade unions to monitor the situation.

The regional fora and committees continue to do sterling work in the areas of equality and diversity as well as promoting International Issues; Protecting Public Services and working with Hope Not Hate on the anti-fascism agenda.
