Respect at Work Conference,
Easton, Bristol, February 2000

Respect at Work Zone

The afternoon session was opened by Sarah Stone, the Project Co-ordinator for a short Respect at Work project in Easton and Ashley, promoting trade unionism within the local neighbourhood. She is the Chair of Easton Community Association. Sarah highlighted the need to increase union visibility within the local community. She showed the painting, produced by a local artist that is being used in the Project materials. The aim was to create a Respect at Work Zone, where people would be encouraged to join unions and unions would strengthen links with local organisations. Free employment advise sessions were being planned and even employer advise was being considered. Unions need to organise but they also need to change and the project would help inform unions what they needed to do to win new recruits and increase their presence in such areas. Sarah gave notice of the Respect Festival in Easton on 19 August and Eastville Park on 20 August.
