Roger Berry MP at Alcan

Kingswood MP Roger Berry has visited a Bristol firm to find out for himself the value of workplace learning.

Roger called into Alcan in Warmley , where he was briefed about unionlearn ' s work by Regional Union Development Co-ordinator Ros Etheridge.

Staff at the packaging company showed off its on-site learning centre where employees have the opportunity to boost their vocational skills and where non-employees can take up apprenticeships with the company.

Roger Berry said: ' Unions occupy a unique position of trust with their members. So the work they do to negotiate and encourage members to engage in learning in the workplace is invaluable when it comes to releasing the full potential of the workforce. '

Ros Etheridge said: ' We ' re delighted Roger visited the site, which is just one of the many across the South West where trade unions are working in partnership with employers to the benefit of both parties. '
