Midlands TUC sends message of support to striking local government workers

As tens of thousands of midlands local government workers prepare to go on a two-day strike today (Wednesday) over pay, TUC Regional Secretary Roger McKenzie has sent the council employees a message of support, saying:

'Council workers across the Midlands will be on strike in protest at the inadequate pay offer made to them by the local authority employers. They are understandably angry at the gap that has opened up between their 2.45 per cent pay offer and the rising cost of living.

'With prices constantly on the up, local government workers are being asked to accept a real terms pay cut by their employers as family budgets are being stretched to the limit. I urge the local government employers to return to the negotiating table and reach a fair and just settlement of this dispute.'
