Organising, unions and social movements
6.30pm - 8pm, Thursday 7 May 2009
Michael Young Room, The Young Foundation, 18 Victoria Park Square, E2 9PF
Dr Elaine Bernard, Executive Director, Labor and Worklife Program at Harvard Law School, will be visiting the Young Foundation to give an evening seminar on her work - covering organising, unions and social movements.
Elaine Bernard has conducted courses on a wide variety of topics for unions, community groups, universities and government departments. Her current research and teaching interests are in the areas of international comparative labor movements and the role of unions in promoting civil society, democracy and economic growth.
Also joining us at this event will be Carl Roper, TUC National Training & Consultancy Officer (Organising), who has been working to develop the TUC's new Activist Academy. The Activist Academy is being set up to increase the number of lay union reps accessing organising training and to support the efforts of unions to engage lay activists in organising and recruitment activity.
To book your place please reply to director@youngfoundation.org as soon as possible. Demand for this event is expected to be high and places will be made available on a first come, first served basis.
