Coping with the economic downturn - a training and briefing session for union reps
The economic downturn is beginning to take its toll on working people and their families. Many workers face the prospect of redundancy and many more are uncertain about the impact of the ongoing financial crisis on their jobs and livelihoods. Even those whose jobs are relatively secure - particularly those on low incomes - are worried about rising living costs.
'Coping with the economic downturn' is designed to help equip union reps to meet the challenges posed by the downturn and will provide a unique opportunity for union reps from across a range of TUC unions to share ideas and experience. This one-day briefing & training session will feature presentations and workshops on issues including:
The downturn: What it is , and what it means for unions
Preventing and coping with redundancy
Why skills matter in a downturn
Beyond the workplace: Helping members deal with the downturn
All participants will get a FREE copy of the TUC's new package of support materials for reps, setting out advice and guidance on representing members effectively in the face of the downturn.
There is no charge for attendance at this event, and lunch will be provided. Participants should speak to their union about the possibility of support for travel and other expenses. This session is open to reps and stewards from TUC affiliated unions.
