New Speakers confirmed for 'Building Stronger Unions: organising the future'

Brendan Barber, TUC General Secretary, Phil Jennings head of Global union UNI and Christine Blower, acting General Secretary of the NUT will all be speaking at a major TUC conference being held to mark the 10th anniversary of the Organising Academy. They will join a speakers line-up which also includes Frances O'Grady, TUC Deputy General Secretary and Paul Mason from BBC's Newsnight.

'Building Stronger Unions: Organising the future' will be held on October 14, 2008, at TUC Congress House. The conference is free of charge and open to all trade unionists.

The event will celebrate and debate the development of union organising efforts in the UK. What more can unions do to grow? How do we re-energise and expand our reps and stewards base? How can we turn around private sector union density decline? 'Building Stronger Unions: Organising the future' will address all these questions and more.

As well as getting the chance to attend a range of workshop sessions, delegates to the conference will be asked to identify what more unions can do to grow, using an innovative 'e-voting' system.

The event will be followed by an evening reception, with music provided by Organising Academy graduate Lawrence Chapple-Gill, and the unveiling of an Organising Academy '10th Birthday' cake!
