Young People

Welcome to the TUC webpage for young people. On here you will find information about some of the activities and campaigns of young trade unionists. The TUC has a Young Members' Forum and which represents the views of young trade unionists and acts on the programme of work decided by unions at the Young Members' Conference.

The TUC contact for policies and campaigns for young people is Raj Jethwa. E-mail: rjethwa@tuc.org.uk.

Schools
Preparing young people for the challenges and opportunities of employment is increasingly important, especially at a time of rapid change in the world of work. More young people are also combining work with their studies. Find out more about TUC speakers, resources and events to introduce young people about trade unionism.

Child employment
Find out about the employment rights of young people under 16 or TUC campaigns to improve their protection

Working students
More and more students are having to work alongside their studies. Students from poorer backgrounds are more likely to need to work to support themselves and many student jobs tend to be concentrated in low paying sectors of the economy. For more information download the joint TUC-NUS report All Work and Low Pay

If you are a working student visit www.morethanwork.net, the website set up by the National Association of Student Employment Services, the National Union of Students and the TUC to help students in employment. You can also download this leaflet "Students at Work" (PDF)

Young Members' Forum and Conference
This section explains how the views of young people are represented within the TUC. The two main elements of young members' representation are the Young Members; Forum and Young Members' Conference.
