NHS Together Supporters.
The campaign has been receiving messages of support from other unions,
health organisations and national and local campaign groups. Below are details
of organisations/individuals that have so far declared their support for the
campaign
Sir Geoff Hurst is a West
Ham and England football legend,
he is also the only player
to have scored a hat-trick in
a World Cup final.
"As a young professional footballer, dependent on my health and fitness,
I had reasons to be thankful to the NHS but it wasn't until two family members
were ill that I truly appreciated the full extent of the care and commitment
available to those needing treatment in this country. In recent years my grandson
and one of my daughters required the expertise of the NHS. In both cases the
levels of consultation, surgery and after-care received were outstandingly
good. In my family's experience the NHS response to serious health problems
has been swift, efficient, caring and professional and has ensured that my
grandson and daughter have been able to return to their everyday lives."
Sir Ranulph Fiennes
The explorer and writer Sir Ranulph Fiennes is supporting the day. He said:
"I love the NHS because they saved me from certain death following a massive
heart attack. Also, when my wife of 36 years was terminally ill with cancer the
NHS, Exeter, looked after her diligently and with expertise and patience".
Tamsin Greig
Tamsin Greig, star of Channel 4's award winning medical comedy the Green Wing
and Black Books, voiced her support saying:
"The National Health Service is a unique and invaluable organisation that puts
life first. I and my family have only ever been treated with diligence, care
and dignity, in life and death. It is a national treasure and should be valued
and honoured as such"
Unions
- National Union of Teachers
"I am writing to give you the full support of the National Union of Teachers
for the NHS Together Campaign. As users of NHS services, NUT members have a
direct interest in the success of your campaign to ensure that improvements
in the NHS as a result of increased expenditure, as well as the dedication and
commitment of those working for the NHS, are not put at risk by action to address
health trust deficits; by untested rapid change without staff involvement; and
by any fragmentation of the NHS which threaten its values. On behalf of all
NUT members I wish you every success in your campaign and in the lobby of Parliament
to be held on 1 November. All our public services need defending against the
marketisation agenda that currently prevails within government. If NUT members
can assist in any way, for example by writing to their MPs as users of the NHS,
please let me know" Steve Sinnott, General Secretary
