TUC Protest re continued assassinations of trade unionists in Guatemala
To coincide with coordinated action being taken by the International Trade Union Confederation to protest at the deaths over the last 3 years of 56 trade union leaders and activists the TUC General Secretary has written against to the Guatemalan president. The TUC is also supporting organising work by Guatemalan unions and lobbying the government to take a firmer line on the need for action to protect our colleagues.

Time to Change Health & Safety bulletin - Carcinogens
Around 300,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in the UK every year, and every year more than 150,000 people die from the disease. Estimates of how many are caused through work vary considerably. The HSE has estimated there are around 13,500 new cases of cancer caused by work every year, with over 8,000 deaths... This bulletin provides an overview of the situation including information on what the law says about exposure to substances that can cause cancer.

In Conversation with Robert Reich
The TUC is hosting a high-profile event featuring Robert Reich in his only scheduled 2013 UK appearance on Tuesday May 21st from 5.00  7.00 pm at Congress House, Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3LS. The event will be followed by a drinks reception.

Robert Reich is Chancellors Professor of Public Policy at the University of California at Berkeley, and former Secretary of Labour in the Clinton administration. Time magazine named him one of the ten most effective cabinet secretaries of the last century. He is a best-selling author of thirteen books including Aftershock and The Work of Nations. He features in Inequality for All, a paradigm-shifting film about widening US income inequality and winner of the 2013 Sundance Festival Special Jury Award. The event will consist of a short lecture by Robert Reich on the UK economic situation. This will be followed by an interview with Faisal Islam, the economics editor for Channel 4 News about the key economic challenges we need to address to secure a progressive future. The event will end with a question and answer session. This is your opportunity to join the discussion.

Women Chainmakers Festival
In 1910 the Women Chainmakers' of Cradley Heath fought and won a dispute that doubled their wages and gave them the rate agreed by The Chain Trade Board. Each year the midlands trade unions celebrate their achievements with a festival in the heart of Cradley Heath, where the Chainmakers' fought - and against the odds - won their battle.

The new right to request training will be in operation from April 6 2010. The TUC has long campaigned for workers to have statutory rights relating to training and enthusiastically support the introduction of this right. Guidance for workers on how the right will work is available from the government's direct gov website on the enclosed link.
