565,000 workers in Eastern England are doing unpaid overtime
Nearly one in four workers (23.7 per cent) in the East of England are regularly doing unpaid overtime worth around £5,000 a year, according to a TUC analysis of official figures published today (Friday) to mark Work Your Proper Hour Day (WYPHD).

Londoners are working more unpaid overtime than anyone else in the UK
Over one in four workers (27.8 per cent) in London regularly did unpaid overtime worth an average of £8,378 a year in 2010, according to a TUC analysis of official figures published today (Friday) to mark Work Your Proper Hour Day (WYPHD).

TUC's International Conference insists that 'trade unionism remains the hope of the world'

Disease of long hours working leaps by 59,000 in the East of England in just one year
In 2008, 15.5 percent of all workers in the East of England worked more than 48 hours per week, increasing from 13.4 per cent in 2007. This means that the total number of employees in the East of England working excessively long hours leapt to 374,000. And the rate of increase of long hours working in the East of England was the sharpest increase in the UK.

In 2008, 17.1 percent of all workers in London worked more than 48 hours per week, increasing from 15.1 per cent in 2007. This means that the total number of employees in London working excessively long hours leapt to 536,000. And the rate of increase of long hours working in London was almost the sharpest increase in the UK, only the East of England was worse

TUC publishes an ‘equalities sat nav' for unions
The TUC has researched and published a comprehensive review of trade unions' equality structures and activities. The review is the eighth survey of equality in trade unions conducted by SERTUC, which is the TUC region responsible for London, the South East and the East of England. The book, entitled ‘Treading Water', will be launched at a reception to be held 14 May, in central London.

The 170,000 vulnerable workers in London “trapped in a continual round of low-paid and insecure work where mistreatment is the norm” deserve a new deal, according to the report of TUC's Commission on Vulnerable Employment, published today (Wednesday), which reveals that across the country there are two million vulnerable workers.
