Minimum pay for apprentices increases
The lowest paid apprentices received a welcome pay increase as the minimum pay rate for apprentices increased from £80 to £95 per week on 1st August 2009.

Apprenticeships in our region increase by one fifth
In an economic downturn it is more important than ever that we focus on apprenticeships and training, to build the skills-based economy that can help take the UK out of recession. The good news is that recent Government figures show that the number of apprenticeship starts in Yorkshire and the Humber increased by 21.6 per cent per cent in 2008 – and the TUC has today published a new guide for unions to encourage more employers to take on apprentices.
