Apprenticeships in our region increase by one fifth
In an economic downturn it is more important than ever that we focus on apprenticeships and training, to build the skills-based economy that can help take the UK out of recession. The good news is that recent Government figures show that the number of apprenticeship starts in Yorkshire and the Humber increased by 21.6 per cent per cent in 2008 – and the TUC has today published a new guide for unions to encourage more employers to take on apprentices.

Activist Academy in Wales – Building Stronger Unions
Trade Union Studies Centre, Bridgend College 29 & 30 April, 3 & 4 June and 1 & 2 July 2009 The Activist Academy is a new training programme that aims to increase the number of reps and activists getting special campaigning, organising and recruitment training and to build the capacity of unions to organise and win for members. Online Learning Pilot
The University of Wales Newport is currently developing some Level Four modules for Trade Unionists that will be available online from early 2009. We are looking for a small number of Trade Union activists that would be willing to test these modules and evaluate their content and effectiveness as a distance learning package
