Every year, the global trade union movement agrees a submission to the G8 in advance of the summer summit. The 2006 submission covers respect for fundamental workers' rights; the Make Poverty History agenda of meeting the Millennium Development Goals (especially aid and health); world trade; energy security, environmental protection and jobs; and education, including the challenge posed by global migration. The document contains a seven point list of demands set out in paragraph 8, including the creation of a permanent G8 structure to monitor developments on HIV-AIDS. Several of the seven points are aimed at urging world leaders to keep your promises over world poverty a key theme of campaigning this year in the follow-up to the Make Poverty History campaign. The global union submission will be presented to the President of Russia, who will chair this year's G8, at a meeting in Moscow on 6 July at which the General Secretary will represent the TUC.
