The General Council of the Trades Union Congress wishes to express our deepest sympathy and solidarity with the people of Pakistan and our colleagues in the Pakistan Workers Federation and wider Pakistan Trade Union Movement, following the appalling school massacre in Peshawar.

The murder of 132 children and 9 of their teachers is a devastating crime, which adds to an already terrible toll from attacks across Pakistan.

All children, wherever they are in the world, have a right to an education free from fear and all teachers have a right to work in safety. We will continue to do all we can to ensure these rights are protected.

TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady has written to her counterpart in the PWF to convey this message.
