European Works Councils: Building the Regional Dimension

On Friday 8 October 2004, a one-day seminar sponsored by the European Commission will bring together trade unions, employers and other regional stakeholders to examine how European multinational companies communicate with workforces in the North East. Opening the debate will be Stephen Hughes MEP and leading European experts on European Works Councils (EWCs).

The event, to be held at Kingston Park Stadium, Newcastle upon Tyne, will also see a presentation of the interim findings from a wide-ranging study into the experiences of EWC reps in the North East. The research is exploring the practical steps that the Northern TUC can take to support EWC reps, and the extent to which EWC reps remain an untapped resource that can strengthen the trade union contribution to delivering sustainable regional development in the North East.
