Ideas for Trade Unionists to take Stand Up Against Poverty actions:

  • Raise the campaign with your branch, put up posters and/or distribute flyers in your workplace
  • Find out what your national union office is doing
  • Take part in regional trade union actions - ask the regional office about its plans
  • If you are in a position to, put 'Stand Up Against Poverty' on the agenda for existing meetings, e.g. regional executives/committees/forums
  • Get in touch with your local development groups, find out what they are doing and get involved
  • Contact your local MP and find out what they plan to do
  • Wrap your workplace or branch building in a white band
  • Find a way to easily organise a number of Stand Up events at work throughout the month, e.g. department meetings, seminars, conferences, in the canteen etc...
  • Look out for TUC e-actions and other activities during the Global Month of Action. Sign up to our monthly e-newsletter, 'International Development Matters' - http://www.tuc.org.uk/newsroom/register.cfm - to get updates and/or periodically log onto www.tuc.org.uk/international
  • Send out a local press release
  • If you have visiting trade unionists from developing countries over during the month, think about how you might use them in the Stand Up activities to raise awareness, show solidarity and gain publicity
