Preparing & Writing a Proposal to DFID's Civil Society Challenge Fund

COURSE AIM

Equip participants from the TUC and affiliated unions with the skills to prepare credible Concept Notes and project proposals to the DFID CSCF.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the 4 day training course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the different stages of putting together a proposal to the CSCF
  • Write a project narrative for a proposal bid
  • Learn about participatory planning and project design with partners
  • Be able to work through a Logical Framework Analysis
  • Identify relevant indicators for project monitoring and evaluation
  • Construct a budget and compile accurate financial information for proposal to the CSCF
TARGET AUDIENCE

This workshop is for staff from TUC and affiliated unions, targeted specifically at: (i) staff who have already accessed the TUC's International Development Learning Fund (IDLF) and will assist them in their preparation for applying to the Civil Society Challenge Fund (CSCF) or both; (ii) staff who are interested in engaging in international development activities through their union; and, (iii) those who wish to apply to the IDLF as a preliminary stage, prior to future applications to the CSCF.

VENUE AND DURATION

All courses will be held at the Congress Centre.

The 4 days will run from 10am - 5:00pm. Coffee and registration will be from 9.30am for a prompt 10.00am

start. Please note that you must attend Module 1 before you can attend Modules, 2, 3 and 4.

FACILITATORS

Three facilitators who provide training for BOND the UK's NGO International Development Umbrella organisation will be involved in delivering the courses: Angela James, Greta Jensen and John Cammack.

Greta Jensen has provided technical and management consultancy to educational and environmental development programmes in Asia, as well as to development education initiatives in Europe for 20 years. She has pioneered a unique process approach to Logical Framework Analysis, which she uses successfully in her work with diverse stakeholder groups.

Angela James works freelance with development organisations, in the UK, Europe and developing countries as a trainer and funding adviser. She has managed overseas development projects and supported the development of successful funding proposals to institutional funders such as DFID and the EC.

John Cammack was previously Head of International Finance at Oxfam and Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Financial Management at Oxford Brookes University. John is a qualified accountant and teacher and specialises in the non-profit sector. He has an MBA and an MSc in Development Management.
