UNISON: Is Lack of Decent Work Pushing Global Migration?

Decent work and migration are inextricably linked. The lack of decent work is one of the major migration ‘push factors’. This workshop will examine a number of the issues and seek solutions which encourage decent work while not restricting peoples’ right to migrate. Among the questions posed will be:

  • What should a Code of Ethical Recruitment contain?
  • How would circular migration work?
  • What role can trade unions play in ensuring the rights of (migrant) workers in sending countries?
  • Is training health workers to the level of local needs an infringement of rights?

Speakers:
Nick Sigler (Head of International Relations, UNISON)
Don Flynn (Director, Migrants’ Rights Network).
