Issue date

The Pakistan earthquake victims urgently need your help

You can raise money from individual donations, and from your union workplace organisation, branch or region. All money sent to TUC AID goes to help the people in need - there are no deductions for administration. And if you donate online the fund receives an extra 28 per cent from gift aid tax reclaimed.

How you can help

You and your colleagues can donate to TUC AID online at: http://www.tuc.org.uk/international/tuc-10821-f0.cfm How about giving an hour's pay, and encouraging others to do the same? You can check your hourly rate using the TUC's online calculator at: http://www.worksmart.org.uk/pay_reckoner.php

If it is easier to simply collect cash you could send a collecting tin or sheet around your colleagues. Maybe ask your employer to contribute by, for example, doubling the amount collected. You could also ask your union workplace organisation, branch and region for a donation. You can send cheques (payable to "TUC AID") to Bandula Kothalawala, Earthquake Appeal, TUC Congress House, Great Russell Street, London, WC1B 3LS.

Remember that through TUC AID 100 per cent of money donated goes to the appeal. Earlier this year we raised over £250,000 to help the people affected by the Tsunami. That money went to programmes in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. The money is helping unions to rebuild and reorganise themselves. It is providing essential training and equipment for local onshore workers and those in fishing. The local people and migrant workers are also being helped with materials for their shelter and health needs.

So you can see that all income is used fully and well. We are supporting the special day of donations this Thursday. But we will, of course, continue with our fundraising efforts.
