Commenting on the British Medical Journal’s report today (Wednesday) that one third of NHS contracts have gone to private sector providers, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said: “Privatisation is a real and growing threat to our NHS.

“Awarding contracts to private companies has intensified under the current government. The government is determined to plough ahead with this approach, despite the fact that there is a marked absence of any evidence as to the benefits of this policy.

“Let’s be clear, this is not just about private companies providing additional services. Increasingly we’re seeing whole service areas put out to market, from cancer and end of life care to older people’s services.”
