TUC Deputy General Secretary Frances O'Grady addressed the TUC LGBT Conference 2011 on the first day. In her speech, she spoke of the strike action being taken that day by four unions in defence of their pension rights and, to warm applause, offered the TUC's support. She went on to welcome the strong participation of LGBT trade unionists in the TUC March for the Alternative on 26 March, and spoke of the disastrous impact of Government cuts on the very small number of community groups offering vital services to LGBT communities.

On the second day of the conference, representatives from the ATL, NUT, PCS and UCU who had been on strike over their pensions the day before gave delegates a brief report of the success of the strike and the warm response they had received from members of the public. A speaker from the Prison Officers Association then reported that his union was banned by law from taking strike action, so they had organised special lunchtime rallies to demonstrate their solidarity.
