At work and in the Community:

Trade unions and black people

An open discussion meeting

Keynote Speaker Gus John

Wed 17 September, 6.30 - 8.30 pm

Mechanics Centre, Manchester (entrance on Major Street)

Next year will be the tenth anniversary of the publication the McPherson report resulting from the Inquiry into the racist murder of Stephen Lawrence.

A report that recognised that institutional racism plays an important part in perpetuating the discrimination faced by black people in the workplace, in society and in communities and called for the systemic barriers that exclude black people to be dismantled for a fairer society.

At this year TUC Black Workers Conference evidence was presented of some progress at work - but a great deal more still to be done to tackle those systemic barriers that black people face.

This open meeting, organised by the NW TUC Black Members Network, has been called to discuss the role of trade unions in organising and supporting black workers in the struggle against racism and discrimination.

The keynote speaker will be Gus John, the well know and respected activist, educationalist and policy thinker.

All Welcome.
