One people, one city, one world
Tens of thousands of people, including many thousands from all over the world, attended the London United music festival in Burgess Park, South London yesterday. The diversity, spirit of humanity and common purpose of those gathered in friendship was an embodiment of the one people, one city, one world maxim that Londoners have adopted.
Mick Connolly, Regional Secretary, for the TUC in London, the South East and the East of England said:
'People came to show their solidarity with those that died or were injured in the bomb attacks, and with their friends and family.
'Women and men, old and young, and an immense number of children, came to enjoy a fantastic fun family day out with music, dance, art, comedy and food - showing not only that we will endure but that we will not be terrorised.
'And people came to show that they will not be divided by the politics of hate, on the contrary - the response to the tragic recent events has shown again that our unity is our strength.'
The London United music festival was organised by the Mayor of London in partnership with the National Assembly Against Racism, unions in London and the TUC.
