Commenting on the latest inflation figures published today (Tuesday) by the Office for National Statistics - which show that CPI inflation remained at 2.7 per cent, while RPI inflation rose to 3.3 per cent in January - TUC General Secretary Frances O'Grady said:
'There has been no let up in the financial pressures being faced by millions of ordinary families.
'Despite the bargains to be had on every high street last month, the cost of living is rising twice as fast as wages, and household budgets are still under huge strain.
'The Chancellor must use next month's Budget to change course and secure strong growth. Unless real wages start to rise again, people will be reluctant to spend, and until they do, our economy is likely to remain in the doldrums.'
