TUC on UK climate change recommendations

Commenting the recommendations published today (Monday) by the Committee on Climate Change on how Britain could cut its greenhouse gas emissions by one-third by 2020, TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber said:

'The drive to a low carbon economy started today, with Lord Turner's Committee calling for a 200 million tonne cut in our national CO2 emissions by 2020. That means huge investment in new industries - electric vehicles, renewable energy, the Severn Barrage, nuclear new build and carbon capture. It'll cost us around one per cent of GDP, but every penny spent now will help lift Britain out of recession, by stimulating green jobs and industries for the long term.'
