Commenting on new research published today (Tuesday) by the Department for Work and Pensions showing that three quarters of the population are aware of automatic enrolment into workplace pensions, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“The success of auto-enrolment and the spread of pension savings is a continuing good news story.

“Compelling employers to contribute to pensions is another trade union policy – like the minimum wage – that started off as a controversial burden on business but has now gone mainstream.

“But while we should celebrate the spread of pension savings, contributions are not enough to deliver the retirement income people need and must rise.”
