The TUC’s new pensions policy officer Tim Sharp has started work at its central London headquarters. Tim will lead on pensions and investments issues at Congress House, including the roll-out of auto-enrolment, the introduction of collective DC pensions and changes to the annuities market.

Tim’s background is in financial journalism. Before joining the TUC he was the City Editor at the Herald, where he covered a wide range of business issues and was at the centre of the paper’s coverage of the financial crash.

Tim has also worked for financial publisher Citywire and Investment Week, and has written on pensions and investment issues for a wide range of publications including the Sunday Telegraph, Daily Mail, Tribune and Pensions Insight.

Tim has a degree in politics from Edinburgh University and a postgraduate masters in history from Birkbeck University.

TUC Pensions Policy Officer Tim Sharp said: “I am delighted to be joining the TUC at such an exciting and important time for pensions and investments policy.

“We have an opportunity to build on auto-enrolment and establish a pensions system that helps low and middle earners achieve a decent income in old age.

“The success of recent pension reforms has been down to a consensual approach to policy making involving industry, employer and worker representatives. It is important that this progress is not undermined by headline-grabbing initiatives unveiled for short-term political gain.”
