Where Next for Pensions Policy?

Issue date

TUC Member Trustee Network Annual Conference Tuesday 26th November 2013

Conference LogoThe conference on 26 November reflected on a significant year for pensions, which saw the first wave of employers implement automatic enrolment.  2013 also saw a flurry of initiatives from government, including final proposals for the single-tier state pension and abolition of earnings-related state pensions and contracting out; and Steve Webb’s ideas for ‘defined ambition’ pensions and further planned action on both defined contribution charges and scheme quality standards.

Steve Webb MPSteve Webb addressed the conference alongside Frances O’Grady General Secretary of TUC. There were contributions from Gregg McClymont MP Labour’s shadow pensions minister and pensions expert Sarah Smart.  The session on defined benefit valuations delivered by Con Keating and Hilary Salt was well received. Workshops on defined ambition, de-risking, stewardship & taking action, the governance gap in defined contribution and investment governance in the in the LPGS were well attended with lots of contributions from delegates.

A full report will appear in the Member Trustee Newsletter in the new year.
