The Gender Jobs Split report and seminar

Issue date

On 1 November, the TUC  launched ‘The Gender Jobs Split’ a report on labour market changes over the past 20 years and how they have affected young men and young women. The pamphlet was commissioned from the Work Foundation.

The report reveals how gender still plays a huge part in determining young people’s careers. The report also shows how despite being better qualified than their male peers, young women are still following employment routes that offer lower wage returns.

This was launched at a seminar on the day. This was chaired by TUC Head of Economic and Social Affairs Nicola Smith, and featured the authors of the report Ian Brinkley and Katy Jones from the Work Foundation, with expert responses from Rebecca Gill, Director of Policy, and Campaigns & Communications at the Young Women’s Trust and Richard Exell, Senior Policy Officer at the Trades Union Congress.
