Draft agenda published for 140th Congress

Asylum seekers and employment, improvements in maternity pay, a fair tax system, better pay for public sector workers and increased funding for the nation's film archives are just some of the issues contained in the preliminary agenda for this year's Congress published today (Monday).

Other topics amongst the 87 motions to be debated in Brighton during the 140th Congress include tougher enforcement of the minimum wage, poverty in rural areas, climate change, and increasing the number of apprenticeships in London and the South East.

Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alistair Darling MP, Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills, John Denham MP and Minister for Women and Deputy Leader of the Labour Party Harriet Harman MP are among the speakers addressing delegates at Congress (which takes place between Monday 8 and Thursday 11 September 2008). Congress starts at 10am on the Monday with an address from TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber.

All applications for media passes must be received no later than noon on Tuesday 2 September. Any applications received after this date will be processed in Brighton and subject to a £50 administration fee.
