“The system works well and is very popular now. Even though some people find the longer days tiring, they love having the long weekends every week. There's certainly no wish to go back.”
Jo Murdoch, GMB Convenor

When the company first suggested introducing flexitime for their 450 production employees and 150 office staff, the union, GMB, carried out a joint survey with management which indicated that a lot of staff were interested in a four-day week and a number in early starting times. Following a pilot scheme, staff now work:

  • 38 hours a week over four days
  • with Friday to Sunday off
  • full-time hours are 7.45am to 5.45pm with 30 minutes break.

The benefits are:

For the company – greater flexibility and improved productivity

For staff – less working days, longer weekends
