The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) is the authoritative, professional voice of firefighters across the UK. The union represents the vast majority of firefighters in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, including wholetime (full-time) and retained (part-time, on-call) operational firefighters and control staff.

Cost of membership

Contribution costs: Full-time members contribute 1% of the firefighter (competent) weekly rate of pay. Part-time (RDS) members contribute one-third of the trade contribution of full-time members, plus 3%.

Where members are paid less than the firefighter (competent) weekly rate of pay the Executive Council shall publish each year the relevant contribution rates for each band.
