Yorkshire and Humber TUC

South West TUC

Title: Young Leaders Weekend
Date: Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd November
Venue: Jurys Inn, Exeter
 
The aim of the programme is to develop awareness and understanding of the challenges faced by young workers today and skills required to build strong and effective unions that are relevant to young workers, it will also forum the basis for taking forward joint campaigns and activity on young workers issues as a South West TUC Young Members Network.
 
The programme will cover the following key areas:
  • The key challenges faced by young workers and current TUC/ union campaigns
  • South West that Works- the alternative for young people and how we achieve it
  • Effective campaign training

Northern TUC

Title: Jobs, Pay and Politics
Date:15th November
Time: 12pm- 4pm
Venue: TUC Office, Commercial Union House, Pilgrim Street, Newcastle
 
The forum will explore the importance of voter registration, having your voice heard, and your opinions counted. hear from Scottish organisers working with young people in the lead up to the referendum, there will be an opportunity for a question and answer session with an MP and the day will end with a street stall supporting the BFAWU campaign to organise in the fast food industry. They day will end with a social.

Midlands TUC

Title: Young Workers Need A Voice

Midlands TUC Young Workers Forum are running a ‘Know your Rights’  information stall at Chesterfield College to engage with students about the world of work and how they can exercise their democratic voice in the workplace through trade unions.

This will be followed by a ‘Question Time’ debate with the students on the following topics:

  • Zero Hours Contracts
  • Votes for 16yr olds
  • Living Wage and Apprentices

SERTUC

Title: Made in Dagenham - Film screening and Networking Event

The SERTUC young members’ network are hosting a film and pizza night, screening the classic ‘Made in Dagenham’. SERTUC young members invite all young people in the southern and eastern region to attend.
